Artist Bo Dingwu is currently based in Longcheng, Taiyuan, where he serves as the director of the Muxin Art Museum. Coming from a family with a rich literary heritage, he studied at Xi'an Academy of Fine Arts, Peking University, and Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts in Singapore, dedicating nearly 30 years to the study of Chinese painting and calligraphy. While deeply rooted in tradition, he strives to innovate and push boundaries within the context of a modernized society.
The artist has participated in the Milan Biennale, joint exhibitions at the Xi'an Academy of Fine Arts Museum, the We Are the World exhibition at the Louvre in France, the Eye and Heart: Contemporary Synesthesia Experimental Art Exhibition in Shenzhen, the Youth Artist Group Exhibition at Zifeiyu Art Museum in Shenzhen, Youth Imprint at Guan Shanyue Art Museum, Knowing the Mandate of Heaven: Youth Artist Exhibition at Beijing Xinzhuang Art Museum, Talking About Shanxi Through Painting at Shanxi Art Museum, and United as One at Shuangta Art Museum. He has also held solo exhibitions in Japan, South Korea, Singapore, Malaysia, Australia, Hong Kong, and other locations.
Bo Dingwu applies a modern perspective to traditional themes, integrating centuries of artistic techniques and theories of Chinese painting and calligraphy into his work. While pursuing the spiritual depth of the ancients, he remains attuned to the present. He believes that humanistic art must neither cling blindly to the past nor abandon the essence of tradition. Bo Dingwu's works combine modern design styles with traditional elements, featuring innovative yet harmonious compositions, vibrant yet refined colors, and fluid brushwork that reflects profound skill. His paintings exude a strong scholarly aura, embodying the elegance of the Wei and Jin dynasties, the ethereal spirit of the Song and Yuan dynasties, the bold passion of the Ming and Qing dynasties, and the cultural vitality of contemporary society. His work consistently reflects the heritage of Chinese painting, fully expressing the national spirit while presenting it on the global stage.
